The Credentialed Community Language Test, known as the CCL Test, is an assessment of your language abilities at a community level. Passing the CCL test is verified confirmation of your community language skills, in both English and another language. Individuals who pass the NAATI CCL test can caim 5 points as part of some points-based visa applications made to the Department of Home Affairs (DHA). These are also known as “five bonus points”. however, you are not entitled to work an=s an interpreter if you pass the NAATI CCL test.
NAATI CCL Exam Structure
The NAATI CCL exam consists of two dialogues on different scenarios including Medical, Legal, Social, Community and so on. Each dialogue is usually made up of 12-14 segments, 6-7 in English and 6-7 segments in Language other than English (LOTE). No segment is more than 35 words.
In the test, you are required to convey the meaning of what is said by each speaker into the other language (i.e. English into LOTE and LOTE into English). Your responses are recorded via a recording device. Each dialogue is roughly 300 words. Each dialogue is divided into segments of 35 words or less.
A chime indicates when each short segment ends. The testing officer will pause the audio recording at each time so that you can speak your answer. NAATI CCL Marking Criteria
CCL Test consists of two dialogues; each dialogue is 45 marks. To pass the CCL test, you need to score atleast 29 marks in each dialogue and an overall score of 63 out of 90.
The result for the CCL Test will be given as:
- PASS: 63 or higher (marks out of 90)
- FAIL: less than 63 (marks out of 90)
- Example: A student achieves 25 out of 45 in Dialogue 1, 40 out of 45 in Dialogue 2. Thus, an Overall Score of 65 out of 90, the result given will be FAIL as the student hasn’t achieved minimum score in Dialogue 1 (i.e. 29).

NAATI does not offer CCL testing in overseas locations. You need to travel to Australia to sit a test.
NAATI CCL Dialogue Scenarios
The dialogues in the exam reflect real-life situations in Australian society. The topics may include:
- immigration and settlement
- social services
- insurance or
- consumer affairs
NAATI CCL Marking Criteria
The CCL test is independently marked by two examiners. Examiners will assess your communication ability in both English and your language.
Two major factors in CCL Test Marking are as follows:
Language Register – Correct Vocabulary, formal and informal conversation
Marks will be deducted for errors. Examiners consider the types of errors in your performance and how these impact on your overall communication. You should use both languages in a way that is commonly accepted.

NAATI Results Time & Validity
NAATI will issue your results (via email) within 4-6 weeks of the test date. However, in practice, results start coming out after 1 week. So you may get your result anytime between 1-6 weeks.
Credentialed Community Language (CCL) test results are valid for three years from the date of issue. After that period, you cannot use it to claim CCL points.
